Judy Farrell, born as Judy Hayden on May 11, 1938, in Quapaw, Oklahoma, was an American actress known for her role as Nurse Able in the popular television series MA
S*H. She was also a teacher and writer who made significant contributions to the entertainment industry.
Farrell attended Oklahoma State University, where she earned a degree in fine arts with a focus on theater.
She then went on to study for a master’s degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she met actor Mike Farrell, whom she later married in 1963.

During this time, Farrell worked as a high school English and Drama teacher at Laguna Beach High School in California.
In the early 1960s, Farrell and her husband performed together at the Laguna Playhouse. Later, she ventured into acting, appearing in small roles in several television series. Her breakthrough role came in 1972, when she was cast as Nurse Able in the hit television series MAS*H. Farrell played the character for two seasons, from 1972 to 1973.
After her stint on MAS*H, Farrell continued to work in television, appearing in guest roles on popular shows like The Waltons and The Streets of San Francisco. She also wrote for the soap opera Port Charles, penning a total of 13 episodes
Farrell and her husband’s marriage was worked into the script of one episode of MAS*H. In the episode “The Colonel’s Horse,” Mike’s character B.J. Hunnicutt said his wife Peg was from Judy’s hometown of Quapaw, and that her father’s name was Floyd Hayden. This was a nod to Farrell’s real-life background.

Judy Farrell and her husband had two children together, Erin and Michael. They divorced in the early 1980s. Farrell’s daughter Erin also appeared on MAS*H, playing a nurse in several episodes.
In addition to her work in entertainment, Judy Farrell was also an avid philanthropist. She was involved with several charitable organizations, including the Children’s Defense Fund and the Los Angeles Free Clinic.
